Butterfly Mosaic

This small, three dimensional butterfly mosaic is made with racy red paint samples from my local home improvement store. Select your favorite color to make this project your own. I'm sure it can be made bigger if you have large butterfly craft punches and a large canvas.

Butterfly mosaics are fun, colorful and easy. Craft something beautiful today!

Let's Get Started

For This Project You'll Need

  • Paint samples in your favorite color or colors
  • Martha Stewart All Purpose Gel Adhesive Fine Tip Applicator
  • Martha Stewart Craft Punch 3-in-1 Butterfly
  • One small, 4 by 4 white canvas. I used one Artist's Loft White Mini Canvas for this project.
  • Scissors

Instructions

Use the craft punch to cut out large and small butterflies from the paint samples. For this project I used a single red shade.

It might also be nice to create a few mosaics in different shades by using larger paint samples like the pink one in the photo above. If you're using paint samples that have different shades then cut them with a scissors first to separate the shades.

Martha's butterfly punch has both large and small butterflies. Start with the larger butterflies first. Bend them a bit before glueing. Martha's glue has a fine tip which makes glueing the butterflies easier. First glue the large ones around outer edge of the canvas. Let them hang over the edge a bit. Then fill in the mini canvas with more large butterflies. Continue filling in the space with the small butterflies until most of the canvas is covered but some white spaces peek through. Hang on the wall or place on a shelf.

Happy Crafting!

    1. Thanks so much Kiki! It's a very easy project. Kids can even do it. Just punch out butterflies and glue them to a canvas. Thanks for visiting me! xo ~ Jilly
