New Pattern Peek

For Christmas this year, my husband gave me new cross stitch software. I spent the next several days designing a garden rose pattern and eating slices of gateau basque. The local bakery sells the incredibly delicious French tart that combines flaky crust with pastry cream and cherries. The tart is one of life's sweet pleasures.

The photo above is a computer generated image of my rose pattern. The pattern is inspired by the old fashioned roses that grow in the dreamy coastal town of Rockport, MA. There, seaside cottages are surrounded by pink roses and white picket fences. Winter is long in New England. Thankfully, roses can always flow from my needle.  I'm so excited to begin stitching this design! I'm still not sure if I want to add some golden yellow thread to the center of the rose.

Paris Pink Heart Pattern

Hi Friends! How was your Thanksgiving? I hope everyone had a peaceful holiday. As usual, my husband, Ellie-beagle and I relaxed and enjoyed good food.

I stitched this Paris Pink Heart Pattern in luminous silk thread on white linen, but you can stitch it in your favorite colors. White embroidery floss on colored linen is nice too. Frenchy Stitchy Things

Ever since I was a little girl I've had a fascination with sewing supplies. I spent summers with my beloved grandmother in her tidy Brooklyn apartment. She lived near Shore Road in Bay Ridge. A block away was a view of  the Verrazano Bridge. My grandmother loved to go for long walks and ferry rides. We visited Manhattan and enjoyed ice cream on park benches. It was a real treat spending time with her.

Every night after a homemade dinner, she'd settle in to watch The Lawrence Welk Show. She always sewed something. My grandmother came from Lebanon. She learned to cook and sew at a young age. She used to embroider Christening gowns. 

My maternal great grandfather was a coal miner from Lithuania. He was a large man who relaxed by sewing quilts by hand. My love of hand embroidery runs deep. 

Sewing supplies are nostalgic. It's always nice to have pretty embroidery supplies in our sewing boxes, right? I'm excited to offer some French embroidery hoops and needles. They're available in my shop now. In the coming months, I'll be offering some beautiful French linens in my favorite azalea pink, frog green and crisp white too.

Granny-Chic

Vintage needlepoint, thrifted crystal vases, limoges plates, antique gold tables with pretty-patinas and classic paintings of sewing inspire me. My decorating style marches to a vintage-vibe.

I can't wait to show you the Ballard Designs Claire chandelier I finally ordered. It wasn't the exact color I expected so I lightly painted it with some Renaissance-gold to give it an antique-gold appearance.

A new cross stitch pattern is on the horizon too. I've designed another simple heart. I'm stitching it with Paris-pink silk on crisp white linen. Stay tuned!  xx ~ Jilly
         

Fleur De Lis French Alphabet Sampler

Hello Friends!

It has been a week since I deleted my Instagram account. I feel refreshed and creative again. I know people use Instagram as an escape and a source of inspiration. There are many wonderful Instagram pages. Oh how I loved the Danish Instagrammers who posted photos from their little, snow-covered cabins in the far North. Their cabin interiors were always glowing with votive candles and firelight. They shared recipes for simple, Nordic Christmas treats like rice porridge. My husband loves the rice porridge. It's like rice pudding only much lighter. You sweeten the porridge by sprinkling sugar and cinnamon on top. I'm always amazed how something so simple can be so good!

I love embroidery because it gives me a chance to move away from a computer screen and enjoy stitching something with my own hands. My Fleur Del Lis & French Alphabet Sampler is currently in my hoop. The photo above is a computer generated image of the design. Once the sampler is stitched and framed, I'll post a photo here and in my shop.

Don't you just love vintage samplers? The kind that little girls stitched at school while learning the alphabet. My French sampler has a modern edge when stitched with white linen and beautiful, Paris-pink silk thread. I love to stitch with silk floss, but DMC embroidery floss comes in 400 colors and DMC thread is found at most craft stores. The pattern can also be stitched with white floss on colored linen.

The colors of seashells and flowers always inspire me. I keep both on my desk when designing my patterns. This is the largest pattern I've designed, measuring 9 by 14 inches. Rose Monogram Cross Stitch Pattern

My tiny home is accented with a medley of fresh roses and cross stitched ones. I love peaceful, neutral-rooms with bright pops of color. I love seashells and embroideries. Anything made by hand infuses charm and personality to a room. Try it, you'll see.  

You may stitch all the hearts on the pattern, adding an optional charm. For a clean and sophisticated look, leave them out. The pattern is very versatile to suite your personal taste.   

This classic monogram is at home in a traditional home or a quaint cottage. You can stitch it in pink and green silk (shown in the photographs) or your favorite colors. Work it in all one color if that's what you prefer. Red floss on white linen will give it a Scandinavian or Swedish look.

I'm stitching a pretty rose monogram in pink and green silk (or DMC floss). The rose and leopard print handbags of designer Betsey Johnson inspired this piece. I love a touch of leopard in my home. I'm going to frame the monogram and hang it by my leopard chaise.

Pastel Patterns
